VP, Principal Enterprise Architect

Organizational and Role Overview:

Reporting to the CIO, The VP, Principal Enterprise Architect is expected to significantly impact and drive digital transformation to Polaris as well as overall cloud strategy.  This will be accomplished by architecting and orchestrating solutions that map business challenges and goals to holistic technology solutions.  This is both a strategic and tactical solutions role. 

Key Accountabilities:

 Business to Technology Strategy

  • Drives and delivers strategy through leading Technology decisions and proving expertise across multi domain solutions & offerings.
  • Gains an immediate understanding of our BAU/Legacy technology stack (Client/Server, physical on premise) and architects digital transformation to X/SaaS Solutions. 
  • Quantifies the needs of the business to achieve value outcomes, champions required methodology, captures/reuses IP and shares recommended practices
  • Maps technology to business expectations by providing traceable business outcomes while limiting technical debt
  • Constructs technology-enabled operating models, and provide viable options and visibility into execution issues

Lead and Influence

  • Leads the creation of the enterprise architecture program/function
  • Promotes the business value of the EA program/function and its process, and the results of the EA program to business and IT leaders/executives.
  • Leads the development of an implementation plan for the enterprise architecture based on business strategy and requirements.
  • Leads the One Call community and vision of Architects and Architecture.  Will define roles of Architects both within EA and across the organization.
  • Act as enabler for other Architects, Consultants and Partners across One Call
  • Leads the analysis of business and operating models, market trends and the technology industry to determine their potential impact on the enterprise's business strategy, direction and architecture.

 Optimize and Deliver Business Results

  • Participates in opportunity development focused on complex solutions in line with One Call strategy
  • Demonstrates valuable business partner interactions in driving deeper business relationships via their earned credibility
  • Determines the relationship between people, processes, information, technology and things of the enterprise, and their relationships to one another and to the external environment.
  • Contributes to the shared account team planning activities across One Call teams, where appropriate
  • Leads analysis of the business' future-state capabilities and future (and current) IT environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement and driving the business forward.
  • Presents a gap analysis and/or IT investment roadmap that reflects the status of the existing IT estate, namely, its ability to contribute to future-state business capabilities around ecosystems and digital platforms.
  • Consults with infrastructure, project and product teams to ensure consistency with the enterprise
  • Identify organizational requirements for the resources, structures and cultural changes necessary to support the enterprise architecture.
  • Oversees the documentation of all architecture design and analysis work.


  • 10+ years of experience a Technology Leader with a background in Enterprise or Solutions Architecture
  • Knowledge of business ecosystems, SaaS, infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), SOA, APIs, open data, microservices, event-driven IT and predictive analytics
  • Solid understanding of Agile methodologies, with full delivery lifecycle experience to on complex, enterprise wide projects
  • Architectural understanding of and implementation experience with the following solution architecture areas: Modern Applications, Business Productivity, Application Architectures including the use of cloud-based technology capabilities, Application Life Cycle Management and Application Platform processes and technology capabilities, Data and Database Management, SQL/BI, and application middle-ware and messaging architectures
  • Domain expertise of cloud application development solutions, container orchestration (e.g. Kubernetes, Cloud Foundry), continuous integration (e.g. Docker, Jenkins, Chef, Puppet,), cloud application design, Full stack Application Development technologies and languages (specifically – C#, ,Net Core, React with Redux, MS SQL, Git, Selenium, and Azure Cloud Services), as well as technical aptitude to learn and adjust to new technologies and cloud trends required
  • Large enterprise deployment experience in complex heterogeneous environments
  • Ability to engage in senior level technology and business decision makers’ discussions related to agility, business value, and end to end information technology
  • Understands competitive technology and how to properly assess feasibility of migrating business solutions to, and/or integrating with Microsoft Azure technologies
  • Knowledge of business models, operating models, financial models, cost-benefit analysis, budgeting and risk management
  • Proven ability to transfer industry and market knowledge to new market opportunities and strategies.
  • Acknowledged for driving decisions collaboratively, resolving conflicts and ensuring follow through with exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Presentation skills with a high degree of comfort with both large and small audiences (Senior Executives, IT management and developers)
