Systems Engineer - Systems and Collaboration

JOB SUMMARY:
Systems Engineer will work within teams of senior level engineers and architects to design, develop, implement, maintain and update system platforms (including cloud).

GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • High-level design overview of server, network and end user devices with the goal of improving
    efficiency by design.
  • Manages system patches for all End User Devices ensuring compliance with
    standards for remediation of patches and maintenance of operational resilience
    through appropriate testing.
  • Identifies and recommends usage policies and operational guidelines.
  • Provides project coordination and writes documentation for technology implementations.
  • Tracks issues and business requests, and conducts research on broad-based solutions and new features that meet user needs and lead to better user experience outcome.
  • Provides direct support for Office 365 Services including implementation and
    monitoring of advanced features as well as basic email system operations;
    Supports SharePoint services and the management of sites for all departments.
  • Provides support to the end user and other technicians in a level III support
    capacity as required.
  • Complete regularly scheduled tasks as documented in the Preventive
    Maintenance plan.
  • Provides second or third level technical support of core, business and applications. Often requires management/coordination of outside vendors and internal subject matter experts.
  • Investigates & diagnoses problems in assigned trouble tickets, as well as identifies and implements solutions. Communicates resolution back to team members and business users.
  • Writes scripts/programs to automate builds, application deployments, patching and maintenance, configuration updates, access provisioning, and other system administration functions.
  • Builds systems per specifications to meet availability and performance targets as outlined in service level agreements with business owners.
  • Reviews system performance data and makes suggestions to improve overall performance, as well as forecasts future system needs based on trends.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Computer Science, MIS, or relevant work experience or minimum 5 years related experience

Preferred, but not required certifications include: MCSA: Office 365, MCSE: Mobility, MCSE (Cloud), ITIL certification, Citrix

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Understanding of desktop and application virtualization technologies such as VMWare Horizon/View, ThinApp, AppVolumes, Citrix and XenApp.
  • Understanding of the collaboration tools such online Skye for business, Microsoft Teams, Planner and Avaya.
  • Broad knowledge of application packaging techniques and tools for virtual desktops
  • Broad knowledge of how to install, configure, and patch Microsoft and third-party desktop applications
  • Knowledge in at least one, preferably several high-level scripting language: PowerShell.
  • Strong understanding of Windows desktop and server operating systems and VMware server virtualization
  • Good understanding of system security, authentication, and hardening technologies such as Active Directory, ADLDS, LDAP, PKI, AV, DLP, email filtering, and encryption.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking
  • Broad experience with system management and patching tools such as SCCM and WSUS
  • Good analytical skills, trouble-shooting and problem solving ability.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Positive interpersonal skills and easy to work with fellow staff and internal customers.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Customer service orientation and sense of urgency to maintain expected service levels.

GENERAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Excellent knowledge of C# or VB.NET, .NET Framework, Web Services, Enterprise Services, and ASP.NET, ADO.Net, Win forms and other .Net Libraries and Concepts.
  • Knowledge of TSQL, C/C++ and/or other programming languages.
  • Understand SQL, VB.
  • Knowledge with EDI (X12, HL7), helpful.
  • Strong knowledge of technologies including Windows 2000, Windows 2003, IIS, (must have SOLID understanding of IIS) ASP, VBScript, COM+, JavaScript, and SQL Server.
  • UML and object modeling (i.e. comfortable with developing systems with these technologies).
  • Object oriented design experience using structured methods such as design patterns and OO modeling methodologies.
  • Experience with VSS, MS Project, Visio.
  • Knowledge of SQL Reports, Crystal Reports .
  • Working experience with iterative development processes such as RUP.
  • Excellent learning and communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • Demonstrated management and leadership ability.
  • Ability to work with teams of various sizes as well as work independently.
  • Demonstrates understanding of SDLC.
